their feathers so faire, that they serve for pennaches to adorne and set out the crests and morions of souldiors in the warres.

Ostrich feathers appear on knights’ helmets in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, but they seem to appear more frequently in tournament scenes than in more chaotic warfare scenes.
